Join Clean the World this year in celebrating Global Handwashing Day on October 15th. This annual celebration is committed to raising awareness about the need for handwashing with soap to prevent disease and promote long, healthy lives. Handwashing can prevent debilitating and often lethal conditions such as pneumonia and chronic diarrhea.
This year’s theme, “Clean Hands for All”, shines a light on inequalities in the access to handwashing facilities and resources around the globe. Every year, thousands of individuals are impacted by hygiene-related illnesses, having a negative influence on every aspect of their lives. This year’s theme is an important reminder to be all-inclusive when confronting WASH imbalances. Join our efforts to combat these imbalances this year as we strive to provide 2,019 bars of soap across three of our programs. Learn more about these programs and see how you can help make a difference below.

Our WASH Education Programs are vital to a healthy livelihood, as we bring supplies and training to community clinics, maternal health centers, and schools. We help local communities supply resources and education on water, sanitation, and hygiene to children and families who lack access, otherwise. This program has led to a significant decline in reported hygiene-related illnesses by as much as 50%, while school attendance among students has increased by 50% or more. This program is being implemented currently across the globe and around the US to advocate healthy hygiene practices with a memorable educational experience.
Our Mobile Hygiene Unit Program is centered around the prevention and reduction of hygiene-related illnesses in the homeless population of North America. Just like the theme of Global Handwashing Day, we believe every person is entitled to the basic comfort and dignity of cleanliness. In 2017, we partnered with Las Vegas Sands to create the Fresh Start Mobile Showers to accommodate the hygiene needs of the homeless in Clark County, Nevada. Along with showers, we partner with a variety of service organizations to ensure they get a “Fresh Start.”
Our Emergency Relief Program is dedicated to supplying hygiene kits, both domestically and internationally, to areas affected by natural and humanitarian crises. After disaster strikes, the risk of contagious disease escalates due to lack of water, sanitation, health care, and the overall crowding of displaced people. To control and inhibit illnesses, we equip individuals with hygiene kits that are tailored to support people in varying situations. Domestic hygiene kits that are designed for shelter settings and include a bar of soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, body wash, lotion, and other amenities. Internationally, disaster victims often lack access to a shelter; thus, these kits come with all the provisions included in domestic kits as well as a 4-gallon bucket, a blanket, and enough water purification tablets for 20 gallons of water. The distribution of these hygiene kits aids in protecting lives around the world from infectious illnesses.
