Clean the World & Hilton Global Foundation Present

The Challenge

Individuals experiencing homelessness who use supportive services are more likely to participate in job training programs, attend school, discontinue substance use, have fewer instances of domestic violence, and spend fewer days hospitalized than those not participating. Access to clean water, soap, and washing facilities reduces the risk of infection and illness from within the homeless population, as well as the spread of viruses like COVID-19 to the community at large. Clean the World works alongside local partners that add over 20 additional wrap-around services for the unhoused.

Our Mission

Ending Hygiene Insecurity

Through completely self-sustained mobile shower units, the Fresh Start WASH & Wellness Program offers showers and other critical hygiene services to individuals experiencing homelessness and economic hardship in cities across the US. In addition to daily access to ADA accommodating showers, individuals experiencing homelessness will also be able to access additional services including: free mental health or substance abuse treatment, food assistance, help getting identification, clean clothes, healthcare, veterinary care for animals, job placement training, and housing assistance.

Orange County, FL Impact

Clean the World launched its Fresh Start WASH & Wellness Program in Las Vegas, Nevada in 2017. Since then, we have delivered over 40,000 showers, distributed over 54,000 hygiene kits, and have seen homelessness decline by 35% when hygiene and wellness services were offered to the community. Partner service providers also report an increase of over 54% in referrals on the days that the mobile showers are scheduled. In August, 2020, with the support of Orange County Government, we launched our mobile shower program in Orange County, Florida.

Over 13 Years of Impact

Our partnership with Hilton began in 2009 and their impact goes far beyond mobile showers. Over the past 13 years they have helped us produce over 15 million bars of soap as part of our hospitality recycling program! Their housekeepers collect soap and bottled amenities from 5,657 hotels and 833,865 hotel rooms worldwide and have kept 4.5 million lbs of waste from landfills across the globe. Hilton employees have assembled 317,000 hygiene kits that have been distributed to people in need across the US. Now, with Hilton’s support, we will provide even more showers and hygiene services to individuals experiencing homelessness. Together, we are going to save lives.

A Public/Private Partnership

In a public/private partnership with Orange County Government, Hilton Global Foundation is sponsoring the additional operational costs of the mobile shower serving the Orange County, Florida. The commitment to helping solve the challenge of homelessness in the Orange County community is truly inspiring.

Disaster Relief

In the midst of a disaster, people are focused on survival and evacuation. However, once the storm has passed, there is a critical need for hygiene items. This is often overlooked in relief efforts. Sanitation and hygiene are important for preventing the spread of disease. When people do not have access to clean water or proper sanitation facilities, they are at risk of contracting illnesses. Distributing hygiene kits is one way to help hurricane survivors maintain good hygiene practices.

Clean the World Foundation’s disaster response to Hurricane Ian includes bringing the Hilton Global Foundation and Orange County Government sponsored mobile shower to Ft. Myers to work alongside the American Red Cross at the Hertz Arena to provide those displaced by the hurricane with warm showers and hygiene supplies.
